Sanrad

Next to McData, the vendor that seemed to have the most fun with our questionnaire was Sanrad. It took singular delight in gainsaying the anti-iSCSI rhetoric promulgated over the past few years by the FC camp. Sanrad makes switches that can support Fibre Channel and iSCSI. It believes that the both technologies are capable of supporting the lion's share of applications in use by businesses today, and that the future for iSCSI is very bright. It even said that we inadvertently gave it an additional sales tool when we pointed out the dual-network topology required by Fibre Channel (we'll be looking for our royalty check.)

The vendor observed that iSCSI should be an open solution in the "pure IP" sense of the expression, and while conceding that some storage vendors are seeking to sell bundled iSCSI per the FC fabric model, the company said it doesn't view this as necessary or desirable.
