Paul DeLuca: Director of global infrastructure Cookson Electronics

Paul DeLuca, 35, heads up the team responsible for all of Cookson Electronics' IT support in the Americas, including helpdesk, telecommunications, data services, Lotus Notes administration and server operations. His team also sets global standards and policies for Cookson's operations in Europe and Asia. DeLuca, who holds a B.S. in computer science from the University of Massachusetts, has been at Cookson for all of his 11 years in IT.

Why application service providers get a bad rap: ASPs were the big wave for a while--it's always been a matter of the right tool for the right job. Our ASP fits this job. It works because the business doesn't rely on it for day-to-day operations.

Best day of his career: When Cookson moved me to Europe for a year to run IT operations there.

Worst day: One day, a facility in Chicago that had been having ongoing phone problems fell over and croaked. It was painful to get it back up and running. I couldn't get that phone system out of there fast enough.
