That's why a sensible approach for the present is to focus less on transport and more on simplifying and securing access to enterprise data by mobile workers, no matter how they connect. In a recent Mobile Pipeline interview, Perot Systems CIO Mike McClaskey said that's the approach his company is taking and he makes a lot of sense.

While wireless broadband eventually will be an important technology, history teaches that first there will be a shakeout of wireless broadband standards and vendors. That shakeout has yet to start in earnest.

Still, as McClaskey points out, there's plenty to do in the meantime so that adding new technologies like wireless broadband doesn't disrupt your enterprise.
