For enterprise IT professionals, there are basically two choices. Assuming you can't convince management to ban Wi-Fi because of security concerns, the most rational choice might be to buy some time, minimize infrastructure investments and fend off user demand with just enough Wi-Fi to meet the most pressing needs. This approach will help you avoid the high acquisition costs and short product lifecycles of today's offerings. The second approach is to pick a vendor, lock in and ride the wave, all the while hoping that your preferred vendor continues to innovate and won't force you to rent a forklift in the near future. Just be prepared to create a line item in your budget for "Wi-Fi infrastructure upgrades" and recognize that it's unlikely to ever go away.
