Aruba Claims Its Software Secures VoWLAN Traffic

Wireless switch vendor Aruba Wireless Networks said Monday that it has released technology to secure voice-over-WLAN (VoWLAN) communications.

The company said in a statement that its new technology overcomes the difficulty of securely authenticating VoWLAN communications using methods that are stronger than use of static WEP keys and MAC address authentication. Aruba said its technology automatically identifies voice traffic and enforces policies that identify and secure voice traffic on wireless LANs. The technology also includes intrusion detection capabilities.

Besides differentiating between voice and data traffic coming from the same device and authenticating that traffic, the software also prioritizes that traffic to help ensure quality of service, the company said.

The company said that the technology is available now as a free upgrade for all of Aruba's WLAN switches.
