Network Engines on Wednesday started shipping its NS Series of firewall appliances built on Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004.
The first two appliances in the line are the NS6300, an application-layer firewall device, and the NS8300, a Web caching firewall. Both are powered by ISA Server 2004, includes SSL-based virtual private network (VPN) capability, provide multiple layers of firewall protection, and use a secure, Web-based management system for chores like provisioning and updating remote systems.
Network Engines, a long-time OEM partner for Microsoft security appliances, specializes in producing appliances for companies such as Computer Associates, FaceTime, CommVault, and others.
"Organizations that rely only on proxy or stateful packet inspection will likely experience successful application layer attacks at twice the rate of organizations that use leading deep-packet inspection approaches," said Greg Young, a research director with Gartner, in a statement. "With the internal and application threat environment evolving so fast, protecting only the network edge and lower six layers is no longer...acceptable," he added.
