Avaya announced additions to its mobility portfolio with solutions for the converged Wi-Fi and cellular architecture it is developing with Motorola and Proxim. The products extend VoIP over wireless and, officials say, improve delivery of other IP applications.
The solutions -- a wireless LAN gateway and a wireless LAN access device -- operate with IP telephony software to deliver a voice over wireless LAN capability. The combined solution supports Motorola's dual-network mobile office device.
The solution is designed to support users across business wireless networks and public cellular networks. The offering also provides access to advanced IP capabilities, such as listening to e-mail, accessing corporate directories and overseeing multi-party teleconferences.
Officials say the Avaya/Motorola/Proxim solution is in trials at several enterprises in North America. It is expected to be commercially available later this year.
