SMC, IP3 Networks To Build Hotel Hotspots

SMC Networks, Irvine, Calif., and IP3 Networks, Carlsbad, Calif., have entered a distribution deal to sell their wireless network products together to hotels and small businesses looking to create public Internet-access hotspots.

The products include SMC's EliteConnect Universal Wireless Access Point, which provides access to 64 users, and IP3 Networks's NetAccess software, which authenticates, authorizes, tracks, and bills users for their network access.

In addition to those products, which were introduced at the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Tradeshow in Dallas this week, SMC demonstrated Extended Ethernet, a suite of products that provide high-speed Internet access to hotel rooms over existing telephone wire. The Extended Ethernet products include splitters and switches that distribute connections at up to 15Mbps speed to distances of up to 5,000 feet.
