HP Adds To Linux Clustering Line

Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday expanded its line of Linux clusters by adding a ProLiant server based on Advanced Micro Devices' Opteron processor.

The new HP LC 3000 series features the ProLiant DL145, which packs 1GB of memory standard -- with a maximum memory capacity of 16GB -- and a pair of 2.2GHz 64-bit Opteron processors from AMD in a 1U rack format.

Like the other LC lines -- the 1000 and the 2000, which are based on the ProLiant DL140 and DL360 servers, respectively, both of which sport Intel's Xeon processor --the new LC 3000 cluster runs on Linux.

The LC 3000 cluster, which consists of the ProLiant DL380 base control node and 32 ProLiant DL145 server nodes, is available now at prices starting at $67,829.
