Gateway Details New WLAN Equipment Line

Gateway officially launched its much-discussed wireless LAN effort Tuesday by announcing what it claims are enterprise-class wireless access points (APs) aimed at - and priced for - small and medium-sized businesses.

The company said in a statement that its 7000 Series of APs include a built-in RADIUS server and power over Ethernet (PoE) support. Additional built-in security includes Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), PEAP and MAC address filtering.

The APs are available in a single-band 802.11g and a dual-band 802.11a/g configurations, but the company is not offering an 802.11b product. The APs have two 10/100 ports so that network managers can set up separate networks using the same AP.

Besides competing on the basis of features, Gateway said it is competing on price, offering the APs for $299.
