Barracuda Ships High-Volume Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus Appliance

Barracuda Networks on Tuesday shipped a new anti-spam and anti-virus firewall appliance aimed at large enterprises and Internet service providers (ISPs).

The Barracuda Spam Firewall 600, packaged in a standard 1U-sized enclosure for rack mounting, supports up to 25,000 active users and can block up to 25 million e-mail messages per day. Other features include application programming interfaces (APIs) for automating the appliance's configuration, and RAID support.

Available in four models -- which support from 1,000 to 25,000 users -- the appliance offloads the chore of filtering for spam and malicious code from the e-mail server, and is automatically updated hourly with new virus and spam filtering rules.

The 25,000-user model is priced at $8,999, with an additional charge of $1,999 annually for rule updates. There are no per-user fees for the appliance.
