TECHXNY To Spotlight New IT Product Introductions

When TECHXNY gets underway Tuesday, scores of companies big and small will take advantage of the show's location in the heart of the nation's media capital to introduce and demonstrate their latest products and services. More than 1,100 journalists from a wide range of print and electronic media are planning to attend the event, which runs through Thursday at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

The two keynote speakers will see their firms unveil new products. Computer Associates announced Monday the availability of eTrust Antivirus " the industry's first virus protection solution for Microsoft's Windows XP. CA's interim CEO Kenneth Cron will speak at 11 a.m. Tuesday on "The Challenge for a New Era: Managing IT to Drive Business Success."

The show will kick-off at 9 a.m. Tuesday with a press conference presided over by Hewlett-Packard's Kevin Gilroy, senior vice president and general manager. On Wednesday at 11 a.m., Kilroy will deliver a keynote entitled "The Role of IT Vendors and the Channel in Empowering SMBs to Solve Business Problems."

PalmOne will be talking up a brace of new products including the industry's first 256MB storage handheld, the Tungston T5, announced Monday. The company will be showcasing its Treo 600 smartphone, which it is aiming at CIOs and IT managers attending the show. The firm has scheduled two sessions for Wednesday that will discuss the Treo 600's role in securing corporate e-mail and other data wirelessly.

A major rollout of new products is expected from the Xerox Corp., which has been moving to reclaim a position in the vanguard of the office. The company has scheduled a press event for Tuesday with the anticipated products expected to be advanced copiers and scanners. Another large company expected to use TechXNY to showcase new products is Sony, which is teaming up with Intradyn for a new product announcement in e-mail archiving.
