Netgear released its new ProSafe Intelligent Edge M4100 series of switches. They're aimed at SMBs, schools, hospitals and other organizations supporting fewer than 500 users. The M4100 series includes 12 switches in both desktop and rackmount form factors, from an eight-port Fast Ethernet PoE model to a 50-port Gigabit Ethernet PoE model.
The M41000 series supports access layer switching with CLI, scripting and IPv4 static L3 routing, IPv4/IPv6 ACLs and QoS. Advanced features include redundant and external power supply options aimed at supporting deployment for converged applications such as VoIP, IPTV and video surveillance. The series also supports LLDP-MED for automatic configuration of IP phones, MVR VLAN forwarding and private VLAN Layer 2 isolation across the entire network.
Pricing for the M41000 series begins at $19 per port for the Fast Ethernet PoE model. The Gigabit PoE+ models are priced at $32 per port. The series will be available in April through Netgear partners and other reseller channels.
EMC Adds Enterprise Controls to Cloud Sync
EMC launched an enterprise edition of its Syncplicity file sharing and storage service. Syncplicity Enterprise Edition is cloud-based file sharing service that combines both cloud and premises storage of documents and files. Customers have a choice between on-premise storage infrastructures based on EMC Isilon scale-out NAS or EMC Atmos object-based cloud storage.
If an enterprise opts for the on-premise approach, Syncplicity moves files directly from storage to devices rather than being cached in EMC's cloud service. Data can also be replicated geographically so users worldwide are accessing files from the closest data center. Syncplicity EE also supports Syncplicity Connector for EMC Documentum, so content can be synced and distributed to large groups of users across all devices, inside and outside the firewall.
Security features include single sign-on with Active Directory or any SAML-based authentication service, as well as two-factor authentication. Authentication can be enforced based on location or IP address. Syncplicity Enterprise Edition is available for free trial now.
Sherpa Announces SaaS-based ESI Management
Sherpa Software will launch its SaaS-based Attender Online in April to help enterprises better manage repositories of electronically stored information. The new platform inventories and manages ESI content contained in Microsoft and Exchange mailboxes, and archives, PST files, network file shares and user desktops. New content sources can be easily added and specialized agents can be developed by Sherpa to manage content within custom systems.
Attender Online takes a hybrid approach to policy enforcement with management components and configuration data hosted in a secure SSAE 16 data center, but accessible anywhere through a Web browser. Although it is a hosted service, critical business data remains at the customer site, allowing organizations to access monitor system status, check notifications, initiate polices and view reports through the Attender Online dashboard. In addition, workflow design and ESI enforcement are performed by local software components so that sensitive data does not leave the enterprise.
