As for Qwest, its loss compared with net income of $1.83 billion in the previous year's quarter, which was inflated due to the sale of its phone-book business. The RBOC's income for the third quarter this year fell 3.4 percent, to $3.45 billion. Like the other RBOCs, Qwest is struggling with a net loss of phone lines.
