Good Morning, Vietnam: Country Wakes Up To VoIP: Page 2 of 2

"We're able to provide Internet speed because we have that regional presence in Hong Kong," said Lloyd. "For instance, a call from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City would be routed through Hong Kong where the voice stream is authenticated."

Through its VDC and VITC partners, Net2Phone's VoIP technology is delivered to small and mid-size businesses, as well as to consumers. The country is still served overwhelmingly by dial-up connections. That's not all bad, Lloyd noted, because as one of the oldest VoIP firms--it was founded nearly a decade ago--it has deep experience in dial-up. Lloyd said the Vietnamese government is making major commitments and to beefing up the nation's telecomm infrastructure, and that makes the country receptive to VoIP.

VDC has designed and established an Internet network in all provinces and major cities of Vietnam. Support and servicing of the network is provided by VDC, but Net2Phone's Singapore office serves as backup, if and when needed. The three companies--VDC, VITC, and Net2Phone--worked together to perfect billing in Dong, the Vietnamese currency, as well as to provide customer support through Vietnamese language specialists and Web sites.
