FCC Joins Cable Operators To Fight Decision To Open Cable Broadband To Rivals

The FCC is joining with cable companies attempting to block rivals from sharing their broadband connections.

The FCC and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association said they will ask the Supreme Court for a stay against last week's decision by U. S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which would force cable operators to open their broadband connections to rivals.

The cable association has said in a statement that the issue "could not be more central to the future of broadband in this country" while consumer organizations have taken the opposite position supporting the opening of broadband cable as beneficial to consumers.
