Dell Aims NAS Device at Workgroups, Small Businesses

Dell has unveiled the PowerVault 745N, a network attached storage (NAS) server with 4 terabytes of external SCSI-attached storage for small businesses, corporate workgroups and branch offices.

The new PowerVault server handles data consolidation and backup and is powered by Microsoft's Windows Storage Server 2003, Dell said in statement. PowerVault also works in Linux, NetWare, UNIX and Macintosh environments.

The 1U PowerVault 745N offers customers a choice of Intel Celeron or Pentium 4 processors, with speeds up to 3.2 GHz and storage capacity ranging from 160 GBytes to 4 TBytes to allow for storage growth. The new unit also lets customers take snapshot copies of their data to allow quick reversion to previous versions of the data.

Dell said the new server also supports other Dell PowerVault tape back-up devices as well as data protection software from Veritas and Yosemite Technologies..

The PowerVault 745N storage server is available now, starting at $1,799.
