D-Link continued its push into the enterprise Tuesday by introducing an enterprise-grade access point (AP) aimed at outdoor use.
The company said in a statement that its 802.11g AirPremier DWL-2700AP has a range of 600 meters. The device comes in a watertight housing, has a built-in heater and protection against lightning, the company said. In addition, the AP supports the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE), meaning it can get its power via an Ethernet cable and doesn't require a separate outdoor power source.
It also has built-in support for 802.1x, WPA, AES encryption and 802.11i security. Besides working as an AP, it also can act as a repeater to extend the wireless network and supports both point-to-multipoint and AP-to-AP bridging to connect multiple networks.
The access point will be available later this month for $1499. Last week, the company announced it was developing a lightweight access point for the enterprise. D-Link has been best known for its equipment for homes and small businesses.
