SuperComm 2009: Brocade, Ixia, NTT, Mu Dynamics, Cisco, and NetOptics: Page 2 of 2

Cisco didn't have a spot on the floor, but in their suite we got to talking about traffic trends in service provider networks and the impact on enterprises. Cisco has been talking for a long time about the growth of traffic, particularly in voice and video and the impact on the Internet. Those traffic trends are making themselves known in the enterprises where they are seeing more companies deploying service provider devices like the ASR9000 and CRS routers in enterprise networks.

Finally, Netoptics released a new 10GB network tap that can forward frames in one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many fashion and even apply filter rules based on header data up to and including layer 4. Filtering allows you to send only the traffic you are interested in to specific monitoring appliances and since the device can be installed out of band, it has no impact on the network. The taps have a web UI as well as a CLI for configuration and management. My only suggestion for them is to work on a XML interface so that the tap can be easily integrated with other network management applications.
