Then, of course, there is always FalconStor. They seem to have their dedupe engine figured out now. EMC already has a relationship with them and they are also East Coast based. Additionally, a FalconStor acquisition would provide some other interesting technology built around their storage virtualization capabilities.

Finally, there are companies like Ocarina Networks and Storwize. These companies could sure up EMC's primary storage optimization message and at the same time not force them to ditch their current secondary storage relationships, which, maybe, is what all the interest in Data Domain is about in the first place.

Predicting what is going to happen next on the business side of storage is risky. Both NetApp and EMC have proven to be unpredictable to say the least.
