CA Plots Next-Gen Attack: Page 2 of 2

Another tool LeClair says CA might use to get closer to the idea of the automated data center is database management software. In May, CA began distributing open-source code for its Advantage Ingres product, and it will add Linux clustering and distributed table locking to the next major release, which is Advantage Ingres 3.0. It will underlay all of the major components of Unicenter 11, which CA has said will enter beta testing this fall and will launch early next year, but it will still be sold on its own.

Fern Pinho, president of the Ontario Education Unicenter User Group, says he agrees with most of CA's message so far: "Usually it's pretty relevant. We're actually trying to automate some of our processes here," at the Halton District School Board, in Burlington, Ontario.

For example, the district is working out a way for end users to order and install their own software using ServiceDesk. The district already uses blade servers, so it's good to hear CA talking about its plans, he says.
