The Vision Thing: Cisco Has It: Page 2 of 2

If you were mining for news nuggets, there were a few: In regards to corporate IT spending, Chambers said some enterprise CEOs are finally "getting their foot off the brake," a statement that qualifies as wildly optimistic in these slow-selling times. In the voice over IP (VoIP) arena, Chambers opined that many large-company CIOs have already made the decision to move to IP-based telephony, with the only variables being time of deployment and choice of vendor.

On the bread-and-butter front, Cisco did announce some new router enhancements, but overall Chambers was clearly interested in talking about dynasties, not a single game or just a single season. If you're a Cisco fan that's good news. It shows he's thinking strategically about the long-term rather than risking the company's future to hit some dubious short-term goals.

(A former sportswriter, Paul Kapustka would be remiss if he didn't mention that he has nothing but respect for Reeves, who with 201 lifetime victories ranks sixth all-time among NFL coaches.)
