The technology was originally designed as a replacement for the PCI (peripheral component interconnection) bus in servers, but is now being touted as a clustering technology for servers and could turn out to have wider applications as an alternative to Fibre Channel in storage nets.
Whatever. We're just disappointed that the industry consortium pushing the technology is called the InfiniBand Trade Association, not the "Infiniband of Brothers."
