Savvis Gets Virtual

It has been 10 years in the making, but Savvis Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: SVVS - message board) today unveiled its new virtualized services platform for utility computing, which it says can slash 50 percent off the cost of traditional outsourcing.

Savvis's new platform employs BladeFrame servers from Egenera Inc. and InServ storage servers from 3PARdata Inc. with Virtual Service Switch technology from its long-time partner Inkra Networks, tying the different hardware components together to create a "virtual" infrastructure for end users. By using virtualization, Savvis says, it can automatically optimize these resources for clients so that nothing is wasted.
