Another option may be unification of the groups as a result of economic realities. If companies continue to downsize and rightsize (a.k.a. "lay people off"), smaller staffs will be forced to cross-pollinate. If this is the case, smart storage guys should be working on getting their network skills up to date, and smart network guys should start learning networked storage.
The most likely option is unification does not happen at all or does so so slowly that we don't notice. There will be much resistance politically to unification, and I am not sure that the improvement the technology brings is enough to overcome those political pressures.
